Where rr is the tip rate as a percentage. Most U.S. restaurants expect tips between 15% and 20% for standard table service.

Worked example

On a $100 bill with an 18% tip for 2 people: tip equals $100 times 18%, or $18. Total equals $100 plus $18, or $118. Per person equals $118 divided by 2, or $59 each.
