What does future real purchasing power mean?
It is your future nominal salary deflated back to today's dollars using the inflation factor. It shows what your future paycheck would feel like in current purchasing power.
What if my raise rate exceeds inflation?
The gap turns negative, meaning your real purchasing power grows. The calculator shows a positive surplus instead of a shortfall.
Should I use CPI or a custom inflation rate?
Use the average inflation rate you expect over the time horizon. Historical U.S. CPI averages around 2 to 3%, but you can enter any rate that matches your planning assumptions.
Does this account for taxes?
