How we calculated this

Open to see bill totals, coin totals, and the grand cash sum.

  1. 1. Sum bill denominations

    Bills Total=(Counti×Face Valuei)\text{Bills Total} = \sum (\text{Count}_i \times \text{Face Value}_i)

    Bills Total = $995.00

  2. 2. Sum coin denominations

    Coins Total=(Countj×Face Valuej)\text{Coins Total} = \sum (\text{Count}_j \times \text{Face Value}_j)

    Coins Total = $13.50

  3. 3. Total cash and piece count

    Total Cash=Bills Total+Coins Total\text{Total Cash} = \text{Bills Total} + \text{Coins Total}

    Total Cash = $995.00 + $13.50 = $1,008.50. Total items = 171 pieces.

Count US cash bills and coins online

The Money Counter tallies every standard US bill and circulating coin denomination. Enter how many of each you have and the calculator returns bill subtotals, coin subtotals, total piece count, and grand cash value instantly in your browser.

Use it when closing a register drawer, preparing a bank deposit, reconciling petty cash, or counting savings at home. For broader arithmetic on dollar amounts, try the money calculator. If you need to estimate travel or business driving reimbursement, pair this with the mileage reimbursement calculator.

Supported US currency denominations

Federal Reserve notes currently circulate in $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 denominations. The US Mint produces circulating coins at $1.00, $0.50, $0.25, $0.10, $0.05, and $0.01 face values. This tool includes all of them, including less common $2 bills and half-dollar coins still accepted as legal tender.

How the cash total is calculated

Each denomination subtotal is the count multiplied by its face value. Bill and coin lines are summed separately, then combined for the grand total:

Subtotali=Counti×Face Valuei\text{Subtotal}_i = \text{Count}_i \times \text{Face Value}_i
Bills Total=Bill Subtotals,Coins Total=Coin Subtotals\text{Bills Total} = \sum \text{Bill Subtotals}, \quad \text{Coins Total} = \sum \text{Coin Subtotals}
Total Cash=Bills Total+Coins Total\text{Total Cash} = \text{Bills Total} + \text{Coins Total}

Total items is the simple count of every bill and coin piece entered, regardless of face value. That helps you verify physical piece counts against strap or roll quantities before depositing.

Worked example

Suppose you count 5 x $100, 4 x $50, 10 x $20, 5 x $10, 6 x $5, and 15 x $1 bills, plus 2 dollar coins, 4 half dollars, 20 quarters, 30 dimes, 20 nickels, and 50 pennies. Bills total $995.00, coins total $13.50, and the grand cash amount is $1,008.50 across 171 physical pieces.

Practical counting tips

  • Sort bills by denomination before counting to reduce transposition errors.
  • Stack coins in standard roll sizes (50 pennies, 40 nickels, 50 dimes, 40 quarters) to speed verification.
  • Copy the itemized breakdown into spreadsheets or deposit slips for bookkeeping.
  • Share the URL after entering counts so a manager or partner can review the same totals without re-counting.

Frequently asked questions

Why use an online money counter instead of a manual calculator?
Manual counting requires multiplying each denomination and adding every line, which invites arithmetic mistakes. This tool applies the correct face value to each bill and coin automatically and updates totals as you type.
Are $2 bills and 50 cent coins included?
Yes. Inputs cover $2 Federal Reserve notes and 50 cent half-dollar coins alongside every standard circulating bill and coin denomination.
Can I save or export my cash count summary?
Yes. The itemized breakdown panel includes a Copy button so you can paste counts into spreadsheets, accounting software, or email receipts. The page URL also stores your counts for sharing.
Does this tool count foreign currency or older series notes?
No. It is USD-only and uses current circulating face values. Collectible or demonetized currency may carry numismatic value beyond face value, which this counter does not estimate.
Are the results stored on a server?
No. All math runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to the server unless you share the URL.
