How Venmo fees work for merchants and personal payments

Venmo charges different fees depending on whether you receive a business payment, send money from a linked bank account, or fund a personal payment with a credit card. Merchants pay a percentage plus a fixed per-transaction fee on money received through a Venmo business profile. Personal bank transfers are free, while credit card payments carry a sender-side percentage fee. This calculator uses Venmo published fee schedules effective September 1, 2026.

Compare Venmo against other payment processors with our PayPal fee calculator, Cash App fee calculator, and Stripe fee calculator. When you need to build processing costs into product pricing, the markup calculator shows how fees affect profit margins.

Merchant payment fee formula

Venmo business profiles charge 1.9% of the payment amount plus a $0.10 fixed fee on each transaction received. The net amount you keep is the gross payment minus total fees:

Fee=A×1.9%+$0.10,Net=AFee\text{Fee} = A \times 1.9\% + \$0.10,\qquad \text{Net} = A - \text{Fee}

For a $100 merchant payment: percentage fee = $100 × 0.019 = $1.90, fixed fee = $0.10, total fee = $2.00, and you receive $98.00.

Personal payment fees

Standard personal payments funded by a linked bank account or debit card carry no Venmo fee when sending to friends and family. Payments funded by a credit card incur a 3% sender fee:

Card Sender Fee=A×3%,Bank Transfer Fee=$0\text{Card Sender Fee} = A \times 3\%,\qquad \text{Bank Transfer Fee} = \$0

A $200 personal payment sent with a credit card costs $6.00 in fees ($200 × 3%), while the same payment from a bank balance costs nothing. Instant transfers to your bank may incur separate optional fees not modeled here.

Reverse calculation: amount to ask for

If you need to receive a specific net amount after merchant fees, solve for the gross payment your customer should send:

Agross=Atarget+$0.1011.9%A_{\text{gross}} = \frac{A_{\text{target}} + \$0.10}{1 - 1.9\%}

To net $100 after merchant fees: gross = ($100 + $0.10) ÷ (1 - 0.019) = $102.04. The customer pays $102.04, Venmo deducts $2.04 in fees, and you receive $100.00. For credit card personal payments, replace 1.9% with 3% and drop the fixed fee.

Are personal Venmo transfers free?
Yes. Sending money from a linked bank account or debit card to friends and family is free. Credit card payments incur a 3% sender fee.
