Why calculate UK coin weight and value?
Cash handlers, retailers, and charities often need to know how much sterling coin weighs before banking or transporting it. Each UK denomination has a fixed face value and a published coin weight. Multiplying count by denomination value gives total cash value, while multiplying by weight gives grams, kilograms, or pounds.

How coin totals are calculated
Total value equals the sum of (coin count × face value) across denominations. Total weight equals the sum of (coin count × Royal Mint weight in grams). Bank bag counts divide each denomination count by the standard bag size used for that coin.
Worked example
One full set of standard bank-bag counts (100 × 1p, 50 × 2p, 100 × 5p, 50 × 10p, 50 × 20p, 20 × 50p, 20 × £1, and 25 × £2) holds 415 coins worth £102.00 and weighs about 2,247 grams (2.247 kg).
